You have the right to be safe and free from violence. If you are a crime victim,
AIJ may be able to assist you.
AIJ provides the following services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault:
Legal protections for immigrant victims of family violence. Legal assistance for survivors who qualify for immigration benefits under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) because they have been abused by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
Visas for immigrant victims of crimes, including domestic violence and sexual assault
Assistance to apply for a visa for immigrants who have been a victim of certain crimes and are willing to assist law enforcement in the investigation of that crime.
The Alaska Institute for Justice received funding from the Office for Victims of Crimes to be one of six demonstration projects in the United States to provide a model for the provision of wraparound civil legal services for crime victims.
One component of this project was a needs assessment which involved the dissemination of a survey to understand the civil legal needs of crime victims. This survey was disseminated primarily in Anchorage, Bethel and Juneau and was the first crime victim survey in Alaska to be translated into Yup’ik, Spanish, Russian, Samoan and Tagalog.
